For this morning, not a morning walk but the first of two postcards from New Orleans. I’m thinking about the gift of getting back in touch with old friends.

What was I doing in New Orleans? Proprietor Jane Wolfe invited me to participate in an awesome literacy program. On Fridays lunch customers at Melba’s Old School Po Boys can get a free book signed by the author. So much fun! The best part was when this father brought in his three little girls. They may not be ready for Thomas Merton yet, but the girls were impressed that my picture was on the book and that I was writing their names on the page I signed. That moment was everything.
