DESCRIPTION:Register at this link. \nJoin author Sophfronia Scott as she discusses the book she wrote with her son\, Tain Gregory\, about the faith journey which began when Tain asked to enroll in Sunday school. The book looks at how a parent can help a child have a real faith as they engage in deep conversations\, pray together\, and get involved in the life of their local church. Tain’s mom realizes the depth  of her son’s faith when he is in third grade and loses a close friend in the Sandy Hook school shootings. Shortly afterward\, he is asked what the most important thing in the world is to him and he replies “God.” Sophfronia Scott lives with her husband and son in Sandy Hook\, Connecticut\, and serves as an acolyte\, chalice minister and librarian at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown. Sophfronia teaches creative writing at Regis University’s Mile High MFA and Bay Path University’s MFA in Creative Nonfiction. She is author of the novels “All I Need to Get By” (St. Martin’s Press) and “Unforgivable Love” (William Morrow) as well as an essay collection\, “Love’s Long Line” (Ohio State University Press)\, and a spiritual memoir\, ”A Child of Faith: Raising a Spiritual Being in a Secular World” (Paraclete Press)\, co-written with her son. She holds a BA in English from Harvard and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her website is www.Sophfronia.com.

DESCRIPTION:Sophfronia will be a visiting writer at this renown conference held on the campuses of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Community College. \nFrom the conference website: The Meacham Writers’ Workshop is supported primarily by an endowment funded by the late Jean Meacham in honor of her husband\, Ellis K. Meacham. Occurring each fall and spring\, the workshop is free and open to the public; there is no registration. The program consists of readings\, discussion sessions\, and group conferences. The philosophy of the workshop is to provide support but also honest and direct criticism for developing writers. The atmosphere is informal\, and there are many opportunities for lunch and other casual meetings. The conference welcomes non-writers who are avid readers of contemporary prose and poetry\, as well as school groups. The conference is open to persons of all age\, race\, religion\, sex\, veteran status\, national origin\, or disability.
