It will take place June 19-20\, 2018 at the New Brunswick Theological Seminary (NBTS) in New Brunswick\, New Jersey.  The beautiful new NBTS facilities are only a short walk from an Amtrak train station with convenient connections to New York City\, Philadelphia\, Baltimore\, Washington DC\, and the Newark airport (EWR).

DESCRIPTION:Register at this link. \nJoin author Sophfronia Scott as she discusses the book she wrote with her son\, Tain Gregory\, about the faith journey which began when Tain asked to enroll in Sunday school. The book looks at how a parent can help a child have a real faith as they engage in deep conversations\, pray together\, and get involved in the life of their local church. Tain’s mom realizes the depth  of her son’s faith when he is in third grade and loses a close friend in the Sandy Hook school shootings. Shortly afterward\, he is asked what the most important thing in the world is to him and he replies “God.” Sophfronia Scott lives with her husband and son in Sandy Hook\, Connecticut\, and serves as an acolyte\, chalice minister and librarian at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown. Sophfronia teaches creative writing at Regis University’s Mile High MFA and Bay Path University’s MFA in Creative Nonfiction. She is author of the novels “All I Need to Get By” (St. Martin’s Press) and “Unforgivable Love” (William Morrow) as well as an essay collection\, “Love’s Long Line” (Ohio State University Press)\, and a spiritual memoir\, ”A Child of Faith: Raising a Spiritual Being in a Secular World” (Paraclete Press)\, co-written with her son. She holds a BA in English from Harvard and an MFA in writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her website is www.Sophfronia.com.

DESCRIPTION:Writing Your Spiritual Story                                                                                 \nWe all have our own story\, a personal narrative of significant events that make us who we are today. One of the beliefs that make us Episcopalian is that we come to know God through these stories and through the relationships we develop when we share them. In this insightful program novelist and essayist Sophfronia Scott will facilitate a weekend of reading and discovery. On Friday evening participants will consider examples of contemporary spiritual stories and discuss the features that make them “spiritual.” On Saturday we will work with a series of writing prompts so participants can generate their own stories. No need to be an experienced writer. You are already an experienced human being.
